For those who do not know… yes, it is hard to be a PhD student and a cosplayer at the same time. A lot of juggling stuff around. It is spring break now in Canada (for some reason spring break is in February). I have 10 days to get everything ready for convention season 2016.
The following conventions I will be attending so far:
- Toronto Comicon (Toronto, Canada in March)
- MomoCon (Atlanta, GA in May)
- Anime Festival Orlando (Orlando, FL in July)
- DragonCon (Atlanta, GA in September)
Here I will post my 10 day updates on how the costumes are coming along. Here are the cosplays for 2016:
Originally I had Rose from Tales of Zesteria in the final three but upon further reflection she brought back too many bad memories for me. So instead I decided to go with Sailor Saturn. Please, everyone loves a Sailor Moon cosplay. Plus she has a kick-ass weapon!
Let the Adventure Begin!

Day 2 of 10 progress
Mood: ….meh
Frustration level: Medium
Thoughts: How am I going to get the shoulders attached and still stick out?!?! I miss my Wonderflex!

Day 3 of 10 progress
Mood: I think I can, I think I can…
Frustration level: Surprisingly OK today
Thoughts: Who needs a man when you can have a “man”nequin for Valentines.

Day 4 of 10 progress
Mood: My back hurts….
Frustration level: Paper mache won’t dry fast enough!! I need Toronto cosplay friends to help…
Thoughts: Doing some resin casting for the gems on dark magician girl… omg, my house smells so bad from the chemical reaction.
Update: Hat is covered in paper mache and another layer will be added tomorrow. Boots and gloves will be done tomorrow and hopefully dark magician girl will be done. Up next: Jack Frost. Hoodie ready for some snow flake designs.

Day 5 of 10 progress
Mood: I want sleep
Frustration Level: High. My house is a mess and smells like resin and paper mache is dumb. 48 hours and still not dry!
Progress: except for the boots and the stupid paper mache hat Dark Magician Girl is done. Jack Frost will be done tomorrow but will have to dry for a day. Love how the design came out. I want sleep!!!
Complaint: Dear Toronto, get your act together and supply rolls of craft foam. ROLLS!!

Day 6 of 10 progress
Mood: Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!! (House a mess)
Frustration level: Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! (No food in fridge)
Update: She is DONE! Except for the stupid hat which is still drying from the paper mache (pathetic). Resin gems will be added in the coming weeks since they take a while to make. This is the costume I will be entering in contests this year. Jack Frost is done but drying. Also, I decided to not do Rose. Too many bad memories. Instead I will be doing Sailor Saturn from the anime Sailor Moon.
Thoughts: Can I wear this to my defense?

Day 7 of 10 Progress (as told by the cute puppies: Dr. Thunder and Empress Saké.)
Mood: Mom is a zombie but we are great! We had salmon for a treat!!
Frustration level: Very frustrated if we don’t get hugs!
Update: Jack Frost will be modelled tomorrow but first we want to do a YouTube tutorial on it in the morning. Eternal Sailor Saturn is about 30% done. Skirt and collar will be on tomorrow.
Thoughts: When mom said she was going to be on Spring Break we thought she actually meant taking a “break”. Mom needs to chill and eat a bone!

Day 8 of 10 Progress
Mood: My everything hurts.
Frustration Level: I am out of interfacing! Why?!?!
Update: So because of my interfacing problem I had to stop this evening and instead work on some youtube tutorials, particularly with Jack Frost. Sailor Saturn is coming along ok. It is a bit tight for my taste so I just have to make sure I keep in shape. Skirt is is being dumb in the front. Need to starch it. Will go to the fabric store in the morning to get the last bit of material and then hopefully I will have all three outfits done (or at least 90% done) by day 10. Now that is impressive.
Thoughts: If anyone thinks that this is easy, you obviously have never done this before. I’m certain my hurricane research is more relaxing compared to this… at least on my back.
Note: Reason for the mask is because house smells like resin. Too tired to pose…
February 20, 2016
Day 9 of 10 progress
Mood: I only have 24 hours left?!?!? Omg!
Frustration level: why did I choose the eternal version of Sailor Saturn?! Puffed sleeves are so hard to make! And bows! Ugh!! They never come out looking good!!
Update: Saturn has been giving me so much trouble. I must be getting very tired because I am making silly mistakes constantly. The skirt is bothering me and the sleeves have been a disaster. One more day to get it all done before I go back to my other fandom, hurricanes. Can I do it is the question? (Banging head) not enough hours in a day!
February 21, 2016
Day 10 of 10 progress GAME OVER!
Mood: I can’t believe I did all three costume in 10 days… I don’t know if this is talent or insanity….
Frustration Level: sleep? really? I can sleep now?! I’m so excited!
Update: Eternal Sailor Saturn, the soldier of silence and destruction, is 99% done.! I will go back and do the top of the boots in purple and add resin stars to the outfit in the coming weeks. I obviously don’t have a black wig yet but she will be ready for her debut at Momocon in May along with her weapon. Gloves will also be added in the coming weeks. Otherwise she is done. Love how the sleeves came out.
Note: I will post one final picture in the coming days showing all three outfits. Should be up by Wednesday. My website is still under construction but will be fully functional in the coming weeks (had to do a huge remodel over the past few months). Thanks for following me on my 10 day journey and it is back to work/school tomorrow.
